Geert van der Sluis

Geert van der Sluis is a Professor at Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, focusing on Peri-hospital Functioning and Participation, and affiliated with the Centre of Expertise Healthy Ageing. He also serves as a clinical health scientist at Nij Smellinghe Hospital Drachten and leads perioperative healthcare innovation programs. His academic journey includes a PhD in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine from Maastricht University (2013–2018), preceded by a Master’s in Clinical Health Science from Utrecht University (2007).

His research emphasizes perioperative care optimization, prehabilitation, and physical activity interventions for surgical patients. Notable projects include developing digital health tools for colorectal surgery patients and studying clinical pathways for knee arthroplasty recovery.
