Geert WETS

Prof. Dr. Geert WETS is an Ordinary Professor and Director of the Institute for Mobility at the University of Hasselt (UHasselt). He holds a prominent position within the School of Transportation Sciences and Department of Traffic Engineering. His research focuses on transportation impact analysis, intelligent transportation systems, traffic safety, and game theory applications in transportation. He has supervised 44 PhD students, many of whom have contributed to innovative projects such as gamification in driver training and AI-driven traffic analysis.

Prof. WETS is actively involved in 76 research projects, including structural funding for the Institute for Mobility (IMOB) and initiatives like IVORY (AI for Road Safety) and TwinSafe. His work bridges academic research with practical applications, such as developing composite safety indices and UAV-based traffic monitoring systems. He also coordinates key courses like Sustainable Transportation Policy and Master Thesis supervision within the university's transportation sciences programs.
