Gaétane Dostie

Gaétane Dostie is a Full Professor in the Department of Arts, Languages and Literatures at the Université de Sherbrooke, where she serves as Director of Master's and Doctoral programs in Language Sciences and Coordinator of the Graduate Diploma in French Language, Sociocultural Aspects and Linguistic Variation.

Her academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from the Université de Sherbrooke, a Ph.D. from the Université de Montréal, and postdoctoral research at the Université de Strasbourg and Université de Montréal.

Professor Dostie's research investigates lexical and grammatical phenomena in spoken French through semantic and pragmatic lenses, with primary focus on Quebec French. Key areas include discourse markers, prefabricated phrases, high-degree markers, synonymy, and profanity within corpus linguistics frameworks. Her work systematically connects linguistic analysis to lexicographic applications while examining intrasystemic variation drivers.

She actively oversees graduate education in language sciences and conducts research using the Corpus of Spoken French in Quebec (CFPQ), a collection of contemporary spoken French data gathered in natural contexts.
