Dr. Gayane Asatryan is a Research Fellow at the Museum of Natural History, Leibniz Institute for Evolution and Biodiversity Science in Berlin, Germany. She leads the Paleogene Polar Plankton and Paleoproductivity (P4) project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research through the 'Make Our Planet Great Again' initiative, focusing on Paleogene radiolarians as proxies for polar ocean currents and climate change interactions with atmospheric CO2.
- Paleogene Radiolarian Paleogeography
- Climate-Ocean Interactions
- Tethyan Realm Geodynamics
- Subduction Initiation Studies
Her research spans multiple geological epochs, utilizing radiolarians for paleoenvironmental reconstructions in Armenian ophiolites, the Lesser Caucasus, and Zealandia. She contributes to radiolarian taxonomy and biochronology, with projects addressing biodiversity dynamics, deep-sea stratigraphy, and tectonic evolution.
Scientific awards include her MOPGA GRI Fellowship (2018-2022). She collaborates internationally in projects like the Neogene Climate Evolution and Benguela Upwelling paleoceanography studies.
