About
Dr. Gavin Mountjoy is a Reader in Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Kent's School of Physics and Astronomy. He holds a BSc from Victoria University of Wellington and a PhD from the University of Cambridge. His career includes roles at Arizona State University and a Marie Curie Fellowship at the University of Cagliari.
- Research Focus: Structural characterization of novel oxide materials, with expertise in X-ray/neutron scattering, molecular dynamics, and transmission electron microscopy.
- Key Projects: Ceria-based materials for energy/environment, biomineral structure analysis, and glass durability studies for nuclear waste.
- Teaching: Covers physics fundamentals, functional materials, and forensic archaeology.
Research interests span four core themes: metal ion environments in glasses, nanocrystalline materials for batteries, molecular dynamics for glass properties, and amorphous biominerals. He leads the Materials for Energy and Electronics (MEE) research group.
Notable awards include the Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship (2005-2006). His work has produced over 111 publications, emphasizing energy materials and structural analysis techniques.
