Gavin Hurley, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Communications and Literature at Ave Maria University, directing both the Writing Program and the Composition Program. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Saint Joseph’s University, an M.A. in Writing Arts from Rowan University, and a Ph.D. in Writing and Rhetoric from the University of Rhode Island.
His research focuses on rhetoric’s intersections with theology, horror media, and classical traditions. Key areas include communication management, Catholic horror literature, and the application of classical rhetorical theory to modern contexts. He has published widely in journals like Philosophy of Management, Metal Music Studies, and Journal of Religion and Popular Culture, with an upcoming book on Dario Argento’s film dialectics (Lexington Books, 2025).
