Dr. Gavin Abbott is a Senior Research Fellow at Deakin University's School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences within the Faculty of Health. He serves as the statistician and data manager for the Institute for Physical Activity and Nutrition Research (IPAN). His research focuses on nutrition, epidemiology, sports science, clinical sciences, and public health, with a particular emphasis on interventions targeting physical activity, dietary behaviors, and chronic disease management. Abbott holds a PhD from Deakin University and has a background in biostatistics and psychology.
His recent work includes studies on telehealth interventions for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, heart failure self-monitoring systems, and the impact of social media on dietary habits. Abbott supervises doctoral students exploring topics such as infant feeding, Parkinson's disease mobility, and talent development in track and field athletes.
