About
Dr. Gaurav Sharma is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering at Kennesaw State University (KSU), affiliated with the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Aerospace Engineering from Auburn University, along with earlier degrees from institutions in India, including the GATE Scholarship (2011). His research focuses on advanced propulsion systems, vortex flow dynamics, multiphase flows, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with particular emphasis on bidirectional vortex engines and delta wing aerodynamics.
Education:
- B.Tech., Aerospace Engineering, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, India (2011)
- M.E., Space Engineering and Rocketry (Rocket Propulsion specialization), Birla Institute of Technology Mesra, India (2013)
- M.S. and Ph.D., Aerospace Engineering, Auburn University, USA (2023)
Research interests span aerodynamics (low/high-speed regimes), vortex dynamics over delta wings, multiphase flow separation, and cryogenic technologies. His work has contributed to Sierra Space Corporation's rocket engine technology and the 4th Edition of Frank White's 'Viscous Fluid Flow' textbook.
Dr. Sharma has received prestigious awards, including the 2022 AIAA Graduate Student of the Year Award and the Woltosz Fellowship (2016). He advises multiple students in undergraduate research programs and has guided projects recognized at national conferences. His lab focuses on propulsion, aerodynamics, and fluid dynamics innovations.
