Gary Simpson

Gary Simpson is an Associate Professor of Preaching and Pastoral Formation at Drew Theological School, Drew University, and the Leading Pastor of Concord Baptist Church of Christ in Brooklyn for over 30 years. His academic and pastoral roles are deeply integrated, fostering exploration of life’s broad questions and human realities through both practical and theological lenses.

• Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary

Gary’s research and teaching emphasize the synthesis of theory and practice, particularly in homiletics and pastoral care. His work bridges the classroom and the congregation, advocating for the marginalized and applying theological insights to contemporary social challenges.

Vocational Journey: Invited to Drew University in 2002 as a guest lecturer by the late Dr. Charles Rice, Gary transitioned into a permanent role under former Dean Maxine Beach. He describes his calling as pastor-teacher, where his dual communities of Drew and Concord Baptist Church inform and enrich each other.

Advocacy and Ministry: Rooted in a family legacy of service, Gary prioritizes advocacy for the marginalized. His approach to ministry and education underscores the responsibility to share voice and access, integrating these values into both academic and pastoral settings.
