Gary D. Henson

Dr. Gary D. Henson is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at East Tennessee State University's School of Science, Engineering, and Math. He has served at ETSU since 1989 and holds leadership roles as Director of both the Harry D. Powell Observatory and ETSU Planetarium. His professional expertise centers on astronomical research methodologies, particularly:

• Visible & infrared photometry and polarimetry
• Observational analysis of variable stars
• Stellar behavior documentation

Dr. Henson actively engages in STEM outreach, organizing the Upper East Tennessee Science Fair and Regional Science Olympiad tournaments. He coordinates these events to promote science education across regional K-12 institutions.

His educational background includes a B.S. from University of Central Arkansas, M.S. from University of New Mexico, and Ph.D. from University of Oregon (1989).
