Gary G. Bennett is Dean of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience, Global Health, and Medicine at Duke University. He leads the Duke Global Digital Health Science Center and focuses on digital obesity treatments, particularly for medically vulnerable populations. Bennett’s research includes the interactive obesity treatment approach (iOTA) and has been supported by over $20M in NIH grants. He serves on numerous advisory boards and co-founded digital health startups Scale Down and Crimson Health Solutions.
Education: PhD and MA in Clinical Health Psychology from Duke University (2002, 1999), BA in Psychology from Morehouse College (1997). Previous roles include faculty positions at Harvard School of Public Health and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Research interests include scalable digital health solutions, behavioral interventions for chronic disease, and health equity. Awards include fellowships from the Association for Psychological Science and Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research.
Leadership initiatives include DukeLIFE program for first-generation students and QuadEx living-learning model. Advised over a dozen PhD students and recognized as top 5% instructor in Duke’s undergraduate programs.
