About
Dr. Gary Au is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in Civil Engineering at Monash University, applying artificial intelligence to enhance transport systems. His research develops deep learning algorithms (YOLOv9, Detectron2) for real-time vehicle detection and classification to understand traffic congestion emergence. Additional work involves parking behavior simulation using SUMO and studies on parking pricing economics and transport psychology.
He holds dual Ph.D.s in Physics (1996) and Psychology (2013) from the University of Melbourne, along with a B.Sc (Hons), Graduate Certificate in Scientific Leadership, and Graduate Certificate in Human Factors. His expertise spans AI/deep learning, parking systems, prospect theory, and route optimization.
Dr. Au supervised PhD candidate Cuong Nguyen (2018-2020) on deep learning transport applications. Recent publications focus on traffic monitoring, parking policy impacts, and decision-making models.
