Dr. Gary Campbell is Professor of Natural Resource Economics at Michigan Tech's College of Business with a joint appointment in Geological and Mining Engineering. He joined in 1982 and founded the Applied Natural Resource Economics MS program (1983), which integrates Peace Corps international development components.
Research examines economic behavior of mineral markets, sustainability challenges in extraction industries, and social decision-making about resource use. Current work focuses on rare earth elements markets, copper industry dynamics, and social conflicts surrounding mine operations.
As editor of Resources Policy, Dr. Campbell shapes scholarly discourse on extractive industries. He coordinates the Peace Corps Master's International program and teaches courses in natural resource economics, international economics, and economic principles.
