Garrett Sullivan

Garrett Sullivan is Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of English at Pennsylvania State University's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. He specializes in Renaissance literature with particular focus on Shakespeare, Marlowe, and early modern drama. His interdisciplinary research examines embodiment, cognition, and cartography in literary works.

Education includes Ph.D. from Brown University (1995) and B.A. from Davidson College (1983). Primary research explores connections between literary production and historical concepts of space, geography, and the body.

Publications include monographs on landscape representation, memory in Renaissance drama, sleep in romance literature, and Shakespeare in wartime cinema. Recent work analyzes cinematic adaptations of Shakespeare during World War II.

Co-edits the Oxford University Press series Early Modern Literary Geographies and has curated exhibitions at Folger Shakespeare Library. Research supported by NEH and Folger Library fellowships.
