Garrett Milam

Garrett Milam serves as a Professor of Economics at the University of Puget Sound, where he teaches core courses including Game Theory, Experimental Economics, Behavioral Economics, Microeconomic Theory, and the Contemporary Economics course "Gamblers, Liars, and Cheats". His Fall 2025 teaching schedule encompasses Markets and Macroeconomics (ECON 101-C), Behavior and Choice (ECON 102-A), Sound Economics (ECON 199-A), and Microeconomic Theory (ECON 301-A).

His educational background features a BS from California Polytechnic State University (1996), followed by an MA (1998) and PhD (2002) from the University of California Santa Cruz. Milam's research program centers on laboratory experiments examining market institutions, with specialized focus on property rights mechanisms including Transferable Development Rights (TDR) and Purchase of Development Rights (PDR) for land use management. Through the university's Civic Scholarship Initiative, he collaborates directly with regional policy makers to implement these tools that balance urban development with conservation interests. His recent collaborative work with Andrew Monaco applies behavioral game theory to analyze decision-making in asymmetric opportunity scenarios.

Professor Milam maintains regular office hours (Mondays noon-12:50 p.m., Tuesdays 2-2:50 p.m., Wednesdays 1:30-2:20 p.m., and Thursdays 2-2:50 p.m.) in Mcintyre 213G, and is accessible by appointment.
