Garrett Coles

Garrett Coles, M.D., is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics in Pediatric Critical Care and Cardiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, School of Medicine and Dentistry. He specializes in pediatric cardiac critical care and serves as the Medical Director of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) at Golisano Children’s Hospital. Dr. Coles completed his residency and dual fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, where he earned board eligibility in both specialties.

• Education: M.D. from UT Southwestern Medical School (2014), B.S. in Exercise Science and Nutritional Science from Brigham Young University

His clinical and academic focus centers on neonatal and pediatric ECMO, with an emphasis on improving outcomes for critically ill children. Dr. Coles collaborates with surgical teams to oversee ECMO administration and clinical management. His research interests include resolving health disparities among pediatric critical care patients.

Dr. Coles has received numerous honors, including the Excellence in Pediatrics Award (2020), Strong Bronze Star (2018-2019), Meg Colgan Annual Award (2016-2017), and multiple service recognition awards from 2014-2019. He is actively involved in clinical leadership and patient care at Golisano Children’s Hospital.
