Gareth Stratton

Professor Gareth Stratton is a Chair in Paediatric Exercise Science at Swansea University's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, with an adjunct position at the University of Western Australia. His research focuses on child growth and development, physical activity measurement, and sensor analytics. He has led numerous national and international projects such as the BEACHES study on built environments and child health, and the PREVIEW study on diabetes prevention through lifestyle interventions.

Stratton has held roles as Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor and Director of Strategy & Insight in the Department of Engineering. He chairs NICE's childhood obesity quality standards committee and contributed to UK physical activity guidelines. His work bridges academia and policy, emphasizing practical interventions to improve children's physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviors.

Key collaborations include the Kenya-LINX project studying physical activity disparities and the Moves-UP project analyzing motor coordination impacts. He has pioneered novel sensor technologies for activity tracking and led multi-sectoral data linkage studies like the HAPPEN cohort examining child health and education links in Wales.
