Gaoqing Zhang is the Heinz Professor of Accounting at the Tepper School of Business, Carnegie Mellon University, since July 2023. Previously, he held roles as the Honeywell Professor of Accounting at the University of Minnesota’s Carlson School of Management (2014–2025). He earned a BSc in Finance from Fudan University (2005–2009) and a PhD in Accounting from Carnegie Mellon (2009–2014). His research focuses on the real effects of accounting measurements and disclosure in the financial industry, particularly climate-related disclosures, banking regulation, and transparency in crowdfunding.
He serves on the editorial board of The Accounting Review and has published in top journals like Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, and Management Science. His work has been featured in Wall Street Journal, Risk Magazine, and Bloomberg.
Awards include Excellence in Refereeing Awards (Journal of Accounting Research, 2023/2021), the Financial Accounting Reporting Section Best Paper Honorable Mention (2020), and the Mary and Jim Lawrence Fellowship (2019–2021).
