Professor Gang LI is Chair Professor of Energy Conversion Technology and holds the Sir Sze-Yuen Chung Endowed Professorship in Renewable Energy at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. With a background spanning academia and industry, he is a pioneer in printable solar cells, including organic polymer and perovskite solar cells.

His research focuses on organic semiconductors, organo-metal halide perovskites, and thin-film optoelectronic devices such as solar cells, photodetectors, and LEDs. His work has been cited over 86,000 times (Google Scholar) with a H-index of 99, including 22 papers with >1,000 citations each.
Key awards include Fellowships from the Royal Society of Chemistry, Optica, SPIE, and the Electromagnetic Academy, alongside being a Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher since 2014. He leads the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Joint Laboratory for Photonic-Thermal-Electrical Energy Materials and serves as Associate Director of PolyU’s Research Institute for Smart Energy (RISE).
