Gang Guo

Dr. Gang Guo is the Croft Associate Professor of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Mississippi. He specializes in East Asian politics, particularly focusing on local political economy in China. During the 2017-2018 academic year, he was on sabbatical.

Education:

• Bachelor of Law (1997), Institute of International Relations, Beijing
• PhD in Political Science (2002), University of Rochester, with a dissertation titled Party Recruitment and Political Participation in Mainland China

Research Interests: Dr. Guo’s work centers on local political dynamics in China, including governance structures, political participation, and socio-economic transformations. He integrates comparative politics frameworks to analyze institutional adaptations in East Asia.

Teaching: He instructs Inst 203 and offers specialized seminars on social science research methods and globalization in East Asia. Over 35 Croft senior theses have been supervised by him, with 20% earning best thesis awards.
