About
Gail Rosen is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Drexel University, where she leads the Ecological and Evolutionary Signal Processing and Informatics (EESI) Lab and chairs the University Research Computing Facility. She also directs Drexel's Center for Biological Discovery from Big Data and serves on the editorial board of the BMC Microbiome journal.
- Education: PhD, MS, and BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology (2006, 2002, 1999).
Her research spans machine learning, metagenomics, microbiome analysis, and evolutionary computation. Recent work focuses on deep learning for genomic data, DNA language models, scalable gene embedding methods, and microbiome risk prediction. She pioneered embedding techniques for 16S rRNA sequences and developed tools like theseus for microbial community analysis.
Active in diversity initiatives, she co-organizes the AIME Scholarship Program targeting underrepresented groups in engineering. Her accolades include the NSF CAREER award, multiple Drexel internal grants, and the Stein Family Fellowship.
