Gail Babb is a Lecturer in Theatre and Performance at Goldsmiths, University of London, where she co-directs the MA Applied Theatre program. She holds an MA in Applied Drama from Goldsmiths and a BA Hons in Drama from University of Hull.
Her practice-led research focuses on Black British experiences through innovative performance forms, with specializations in:
- Community-engaged theatre methodologies
- Interdisciplinary dramaturgy processes
- Decolonial approaches to performance
- Arts-based equity training
As an award-winning director and dramaturg, Babb has collaborated with major cultural institutions including Brixton House, Fuel Theatre, National Youth Theatre, and Tamasha. Her creative portfolio includes productions exploring trauma embodiment, archival practices, and Afrofuturist narratives.
Babb's contributions have been recognized through multiple honors including the Kenneth Tynan Award for Dramaturgy and Clore Leadership Fellowship. She established the Utsey Chamber Music Series and developed anti-racist training programs for arts organizations and NHS trusts.
