About
Gaetano Assanto is Professor of Optoelectronics at the University Roma Tre, where he leads the Nonlinear Optics and OptoElectronics Lab. He received his M.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Palermo and Ph.D. in Electronic and Communication Engineering. After research positions in Sicily, the University of Arizona, and CREOL, he joined Roma Tre in 1992. His research focuses on nonlinear parametric effects, Kerr-like phenomena, light localization, and infrared optoelectronics.
Research encompasses spatial solitons in liquid crystals (nematicons), quadratic cascading in photonic lattices, and thermo-optic signal processing. Experimental work includes pioneering demonstrations of simultons in nonlinear waveguides.
Professional recognition includes OSA Fellowship, IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lectureship, and editorial roles for Optics Letters, IEEE Photonics Journal, and Laser Physics Review. He maintains memberships in SPIE, INFN, and EPS.
