About
Gaelen R Burke serves as a Professor in the Department of Entomology at the University of Georgia's College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences. His laboratory is physically located at 140 Cedar Street, Building C, Athens, GA 30602, with contact available via telephone at 706-542-1863.
Dr. Burke's research program investigates symbiotic relationships between microbes and animals, with particular emphasis on beneficial viruses harbored by parasitic wasps. His laboratory employs functional and evolutionary genetics and genomics approaches to examine how these symbiotic relationships form and are maintained across generations. This work bridges entomology, virology, and evolutionary biology to understand non-pathogenic microbe-animal interactions.
The Burke Lab maintains an active research presence within UGA's entomology department, contributing to the university's research mission in agricultural and environmental sciences. A video interview titled 'Live from the Lab with Gaelen Burke' was recorded on February 23, 2018, highlighting his research on wasp-caterpillar interactions.
