Gabriel Rubin

Gabriel Rubin is Professor of Justice Studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Montclair State University, where he serves as Deputy Chair of the Justice Studies Department and Head of the College Strategic Review Committee. He joined Montclair State in 2008 after earning his PhD in Political Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, following a BA from Temple University.

His research focuses on the intersection of migration, terrorism, and radicalization, with significant contributions to understanding presidential rhetoric on terrorism and counter-terrorism legislation. Rubin's work spans global justice frameworks, human rights, political theory, and civil war studies, with particular attention to how state systems influence migration patterns and radicalization processes. His theoretical approach combines rigorous methodological analysis with bold examinations of contemporary security challenges.

Rubin's publications reveal evolving research trajectories: from early work on civil liberties post-9/11, through presidential rhetoric analysis across three administrations, to contemporary explorations of migration-radicalization connections. His scholarship demonstrates consistent engagement with policy-relevant questions while maintaining academic rigor, with publications appearing in both academic presses and accessible formats for broader audiences.

As an educator, Rubin teaches courses spanning international justice, terrorism studies, statistics for social research, and theories of justice. His leadership roles within the department and college reflect his institutional commitment beyond research and teaching responsibilities.
