University of Notre DameAbout
Gabriel R. Burks is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Notre Dame's College of Engineering. His research focuses on advanced materials characterization and nanoscale structural evolution of soft and biological materials using custom Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy (LPEM) techniques.
Education:
- Ph.D., Materials Science & Engineering, Drexel University (2018)
- M.S., Materials Science & Engineering, Drexel University (2013)
- B.S., Physics, Grambling State University (2011)
Research Interests: Dr. Burks' work spans three primary areas: (1) Automated Materials Synthesis using hydrodynamically directed and machine learning-assisted methods for nanomaterial manufacturing, (2) Synthesis of Soft Matter Organelles involving confined vesicles for simulating biological communication, and (3) Tau Protein Foldopathies investigating assembly/disassembly mechanisms in neurodegenerative diseases. His methodologies emphasize atomic-scale visualization and kinetic pathway analysis.
