Gabriel Nelson

Gabriel Nelson serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Sociology within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Colorado Denver. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California Los Angeles and a B.A. from the University of Colorado Boulder.

Dr. Nelson specializes in Political Sociology, Economic Inequality, Historical Sociology, and Latin American studies. His field research in Medellín, Colombia investigated landholding inequality and violence through qualitative semi-structured interviews with government officials and former senators from Antioquia. He employs mixed methods approaches including spatial analysis and longitudinal frameworks to examine regions affected by guerrilla-paramilitary conflicts. His non-profit work supporting underrepresented students in the South Bronx, NY demonstrates applied commitment to addressing social inequities.

Teaching experience spans Criminology (SOCY 3490) at CU Denver alongside prior appointments at CUNY-Lehman College, CUNY-Hunter College, and Metropolitan State University, reflecting transnational engagement with structural inequality.
