Gabor Batonyi

Gabor Batonyi is a Professor at the University of Bradford, specializing in international relations and history. He holds a DPhil from the University of Oxford (1996), following studies at institutions in Budapest and Bologna. His research focuses on Anglo-Hungarian relations, British intelligence during the Cold War, and the diplomatic history of Central and Eastern Europe. He has authored works such as Britain and Central Europe, 1918–1933 and contributes to debates on Thatcher’s foreign policy and the collapse of communism.

Teaching areas include Central and Eastern Europe’s 20th-century history, British foreign policy, and contemporary authoritarian regimes. His research spans topics like the British Council’s cultural diplomacy and the historical impact of show trials in Hungary during the Cold War.
