G.J.M. Tuijthof is a Professor and Chair of Biomedical Device Design & Production at the Department of Biomechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Technology, University of Twente. He is affiliated with the TechMed Centre and is a member of the prestigious Netherlands Academy of Engineering (NAE).
His research focuses on clinically driven medical device innovation, specializing in minimally invasive diagnosis and intervention with emphasis on ankle and foot biomechanics (including talus bone pathology). He pioneers personalized and circular device design approaches that accelerate development cycles while ensuring compliance with Medical Device Regulation (MDR), and explores open-source distribution models for medical technologies.
