G. Thomas Goodnight is a distinguished Professor of Communication at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg School, where he has served since 2002 following a 27-year tenure at Northwestern University (1975–2002). He leads doctoral programs ranked among the nation’s top, has supervised over 50 awarded doctoral dissertations, and mentors scholars across global networks. His research explores the intersections of communication with ethics, sustainability, and geopolitical challenges, particularly in Asia and Africa. He currently holds a 2023 fellowship at Fudan University (Shanghai) and acts as a guest scholar at Tsinghua University (Beijing).
Key areas of inquiry include energy diplomacies, cyber sovereignty, nested deliberation, and the societal impacts of emerging technologies.
