Fábio Rodrigues is an FCT-CEEC Assistant Researcher at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S), University of Porto, collaborating with the Center for Translational Health and Medical Biotechnology Research (TBIO) at ESS|P. Porto. His research centers on Parkinson's Disease (PD) pathogenesis and therapeutic development.
His educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in Health Sciences from the Medical School of the University of Minho (2015), completed in collaboration with the University of Calgary's Pharmaceutical Production Research Facility.
Dr. Rodrigues investigates prodromal PD phases (e.g., depression), neuron-glia crosstalk, cellular/molecular changes in disease progression, and the microbiota-gut-brain axis. His work aims to identify disease-modifying strategies targeting protein degradation impairment, microglial activation, and alpha-synuclein accumulation.
With 44 publications and 2000+ citations (Scopus h-index=25), his contributions are recognized by the Mantero Belard Neuroscience Prize—Portugal's most prestigious award in neurodegenerative disease research.
