Fusae Abbott is a Professor and Department Chair at Samuel Merritt University's College of Nursing, where she also directs the Case Management (CM) Program. She holds a DNSc from UCSF (1992), MSN from University of Minnesota (1979), and BEd from University of Tokushima, Japan (1973). With 45 years of transnational nursing practice and education experience, her work spans Japan and the US.

Research focuses on chronic disease self-management, rehospitalization prevention, and CM program evaluation. Founded Japan Chronic Disease Self-Management Association (JCDSMA) in 2005 to deliver patient workshops, now active in 21 prefectures with 2,297 participants (2021).
Professional memberships include American Case Management Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, and California Nurses Association. JCDSMA expanded to virtual workshops during the pandemic.
