The University of Texas Health Science Center at HoustonAbout
Fuqing Wu is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences within the School of Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston). His research focuses on developing environmental and genomic surveillance methods for viral diseases to improve population health outcomes.
Dr. Wu's work integrates molecular virology, genomic sequencing, and biostatistical approaches to advance wastewater surveillance for zoonotic pathogens, track genomic variant evolution, and combine wastewater data with population health metrics to address health inequality and disparity. He also investigates how viral infections and antiviral treatments affect gut microbiomes and population health, while developing synthetic biology tools for infectious disease diagnostics.
