About
Fuminori Inoue is Professor in the Faculty of Letters, Arts and Sciences at Waseda University, teaching in the School of Culture, Media and Society. He specialises in the history and culture of the ancient Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on the decline of Greek and Roman antiquity, ritual studies, and the city of Palmyra.
His research has been supported by multiple JSPS Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, including a flagship project on “Integrated Studies in the Decline Problems in the Greek and Roman Antiquity” (2014-2018) that culminated in an international conference at the University of Oxford. Earlier projects explored ritual and community in the East Mediterranean and the relationship between the Roman Empire and Palmyra in the third century AD.
In 2025 he offers an extensive range of courses spanning introductory surveys (Introduction to Mediterranean Cultures, Introduction to Western History) to advanced research seminars (Ancient Rome, Western Classics, Western History: Research Seminar) for undergraduate and graduate students within both the School of Culture, Media and Society and the Graduate School of Letters, Arts and Sciences.
Although no specific awards or recent publications are listed in the supplied data, his sustained grant success and conference organisation underscore his active scholarly profile in classical and Mediterranean studies.
