Fulvio Boano

Fulvio Boano is a Full Professor at the Department of Environmental, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) at the Polytechnic University of Turin. He serves as the Coordinator of the College of Environmental and Territorial Engineering and is a member of the Interdepartmental Center CWC - CleanWaterCenter@PoliTo. His academic and research leadership spans multiple domains in environmental hydraulics and sustainable urban water systems.

His primary research interests include:

• Green walls and vertical greening systems
• Groundwater-surface water interactions
• Hyporheic flow and karst hydrology
• Nature-based solutions for urban resilience
• Sustainable urban drainage and water supply systems

His recent publications (2024–2025) demonstrate a strong focus on modeling urban drainage responses, assessing public perception of green infrastructure, and developing innovative nature-based wastewater treatment systems such as green walls. These works reflect a multidisciplinary approach integrating environmental engineering, hydrology, and urban sustainability.

His scientific recognitions include:

Boano has supervised several PhD students, including Fabiola Cannizzaro and Carlotta Fasano (current), and Francesco Busca (completed). He leads competitive research projects such as CLEVER (2023–2025), NICE (PRIN, 2021–2025), and previously the EU H2020 SUPERGREEN project (2017–2019). He is also involved in non-commercial and public administration agreements related to water management and nature-based solutions. His work contributes significantly to UN Sustainable Development Goals 6 (Clean Water), 11 (Sustainable Cities), and 15 (Life on Land).

He is actively involved in teaching across multiple programs, including Civil Engineering, Environmental and Land Management Engineering, and Architecture for Sustainability, offering courses in urban water drainage, environmental hydraulics, and climate resilience design.
