Fruhling Rijsdijk

Fruhling Rijsdijk is a Professor of Statistical Genetics in the Social Genetic & Developmental Psychiatry department. He holds a PhD in Genetic overlap of Neural Speed, Reaction Time and Cognitive Ability (VU Amsterdam, 1997) and an MSc in Experimental Psychology/Neuropsychology (VU Amsterdam, 1991). His research focuses on structural equation models (SEM) for analyzing genetically-sensitive twin/family data, including ascertainment correction in hospital-ascertained samples. He develops methods for gene-environment interactions, latent class modeling, and genetic growth curve analysis using OpenMx software. He co-leads the SGDP Summer School, a global course teaching Twin Model Fitting in OpenMx.

• Key Projects: Includes studies on intergenerational transmission of nutritional choices (MRC-funded), cross-cultural cohort analyses (ESRC), and mental illness aetiology in Sri Lanka (MRC).
• Contributions: Advances in twin modeling methodologies, mental health genetics, and behavioral genetics applications.

Recent work examines ADHD-emotional problem linkages, disaster impacts on risk preferences, and adverse childhood experiences' genetic basis. He has supervised 17 research projects and holds 12,948 citations.
