About
Friederike Gronwald is a Doctoral Researcher at GEOMAR Helmholtz-Centre for Ocean Research since 2023. She works in the research group "Management Ecology of Marine Macrophytes" led by Dr. Florian Weinberger, focusing on hydrodynamic and aerodynamic effects on seaweed drift velocity in the Baltic Sea. Her work combines computational modeling with field studies of drifting macroalgae and blooms, supported by funding from LfU Schleswig-Holstein and collaboration with NIOZ (Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research) in Yerseke.
- Education:
- PhD in progress (since 2023): Predicting hydro- and aerodynamic influences on macroalgal drift
- Master in Biological Oceanography (2020-2023), GEOMAR
- Bachelor in Biosciences (2017-2020), University of Rostock
- Research Focus:
- Disentangling impacts of currents, wind, waves, and seabed structures on seaweed drift dynamics
- Modeling behavior of morphologically diverse macroalgae in marine environments
- Addressing Baltic Sea ecological challenges through interdisciplinary approaches
