Frida Timan is a PhD candidate in Human Geography and Urban Studies at the Department of Geography and Environment, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She concurrently serves as an Education Innovation Analyst and Class Teacher at LSE. Her research focuses on legal processes in urban spaces, particularly the interplay between law, spatial hierarchies, and urban planning. She holds expertise in carcerality, urban leisure, and settler colonial studies.
Her doctoral work examines legal permitting frameworks in Vancouver, revealing how seemingly progressive urban policies perpetuate inequality. She has published in Geoforum and presented at conferences like the Association of American Geographers (AAG) and the First Annual Conference of Critical Legal Geography. She has also been recognized with the 2022 Best Student Paper Award and teaching accolades for inclusive pedagogy.
Timan is fluent in Danish, Norwegian, Spanish, and Swedish. She contributes to academic communities through roles like organizing the 'Feminist Research Methods' reading group and consulting on urban planning initiatives.
