Freya Kodar is the Dean of Law and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Victoria. She joined the faculty in 2005 and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2012. Her research focuses on income inequality, consumer law, pensions, disability law, and financial regulation. She co-authored the first Canadian textbook on Law and Disability in Canada: Cases and Materials (2023). Her work examines regulatory responses to consumer debt, pension fund investments, and retirement security for precarious workers.

Teaching & Research: Teaches Debtor and Creditor Relations, Torts, Pension Law, and Disability Law. Her scholarship appears in the Canadian Journal of Women and the Law, Dalhousie Law Journal, and interdisciplinary journals like Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture & Social Justice.
Professional Service: Served as Associate Dean of Administration and Research (2016–2021). Active in legal education reform and policy advocacy, particularly around financial literacy and vulnerable consumer protections.
