Fredrik Helland-Riise is a Doctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oslo, affiliated with the Frontier Research in Educational Measurement (FREMO) research group. His work focuses on measuring individual differences in cognitive ability within the Norwegian population, modern test design, and the application of technology in assessment administration and scoring. His PhD project, Measuring Cognitive Abilities in the Norwegian Population, is supervised by Professor Björn Andersson. Helland-Riise holds a Master of Philosophy in Education from the University of Oslo.
His research emphasizes large-scale item-level analysis in cognitive assessments, as seen in his 2024 publication on the Figural Matrices Test in the Norwegian Armed Forces. He has also contributed to validating the Norwegian version of Raven’s Progressive Matrices (2017). His work bridges psychometrics, educational measurement, and technology-driven assessment practices.
Key research collaborations include the Centre for Educational Measurement (CEMO) at the University of Oslo, where he applies advanced analytical methods to improve test precision and equity in cognitive assessments.
