Frederick Van Der Ploeg

Frederick Van Der Ploeg is a Professor of Economics at the University of Oxford, with prior academic appointments at the University of Cambridge, London School of Economics, Tilburg University, and the European University Institute. He has also held political roles, including Chief Financial Spokesperson in the Dutch Parliament and State Secretary for Education, Culture and Science. His current research focuses on the economics of climate change and natural resources, while maintaining side interests in higher education reform and economics of art and culture. He earned a Ph.D. in Engineering from the University of Cambridge.

His research spans macroeconomic policy, public finance, and environmental economics, particularly addressing climate change mitigation, carbon taxation, and resource-dependent economies. Recent publications explore green transitions, flood protection strategies, and the paradoxes of taxation in resource-rich contexts.
