Professor Frederic Leusch is the Dean (Research) and Pro Vice Chancellor (Sciences) at Griffith University, leading the ARI Toxicology Research Program (ARITOX) at the Australian Rivers Institute. He holds a Professorship in the School of Environment and Science. His research focuses on contaminants of emerging concern, microplastics, and effect-based methods for water quality assessment, aligning with six UN SDGs (3,6,11,12,14,17). He has over 160 peer-reviewed publications and extensive international collaborations.
Education: PhD (Lincoln University, 2004), MSc (UNB, 2001), BSc (McGill, 1998), Diploma in University Teaching (UNB, 2000).
Research interests include pollution mitigation in water resources, with projects funded by ARC, Water Research Australia, and international partners. He supervises 8 PhD candidates and teaches Ecotoxicology. Awards include Fellowships from the Peter Cullen Trust and FACTRA, plus teaching commendations.
Professional roles include editorial roles at Environmental Science & Technology and advisory positions with OECD and NHMRC. His labs and teams focus on toxicology research, with projects on wastewater treatment, microplastic transport, and bioassay development.
