Fred V. Carstensen is a Professor of Finance and Economics at the University of Connecticut, holding a joint appointment in the Department of Finance (School of Business) and the Department of Economics. He serves as Director of the Connecticut Center for Economic Analysis (CCEA) since 1998. Previously, he held roles at the University of Chicago, University of Virginia, and Trinity College (visiting Shelby Cullum Davis Professor of American Institutions and Values).
- Education: B.A. (Honors) from University of Wisconsin (1966), Ph.D. from Yale University (1976).
His research focuses on transnational enterprise, entrepreneurship, and the political economy of capitalism, with contributions to Russian, British, Mexican, and American economic and business history. At CCEA, he oversees over 175 economic impact studies, policy analyses, and demographic projections for Connecticut’s public and private sectors. He also revived the State Data Center and provided legislative testimony on economic issues. Prof. Carstensen has been featured in media for commentary on economic trends and policy.
