Fred Truniger is a Professor and Co-Head of the Master of Arts in Film at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU). He holds a Master's in Film Theory from the University of Zurich and a PhD from ETH Zurich's Department of Architecture. His research focuses on experimental film, landscape theory, and ultrashort audiovisual forms. He has led major projects funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, including 'Swiss Experimental Films 1950–1988' and 'Ultrashort'.
Truniger co-founded the collective reservoirfilm and has curated programs at festivals like VIPER Luzern, Oberhausen Short Film Festival, and Duisburger Filmwoche. His publications include Minor Cinema (2020) and Filmic Mapping (2013). He received the 2014 Publikationspreis for his work on sustainable tourism communication.
He teaches at Zurich University of the Arts and has lectured at the Universities of Zurich and Basel. His work bridges film history, art, and spatial theory, with projects exploring the intersection of film and architecture.
