Fred Langford is a Visiting Professor in Safeguarding Technology at the University of Suffolk within the Research Directorate. He concurrently serves as a Visiting Professional Fellow at Aston University and holds advisory board positions with REPHRAIN (University of Bristol) and INHOPE (International Hotline Association), while also acting as a Non-Executive Director for the Video Standards Council.
With 30 years of cross-sector experience spanning commercial, civil society, military, and regulatory domains, Langford's research focuses on Cybersecurity, Child Protection, Trust and Safety Technologies, and Safeguarding Technology. His work centers on developing industry data sets to integrate into technological architectures that mitigate illegal content risks, particularly concerning child sexual abuse material prevention through policy and technical solutions.
Langford previously served as Deputy CEO/CTO of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and President of INHOPE. His extensive governance roles include Former Chair of the UK Council for Internet Safety Technical Working Group, Board Member of the UK Home Office Child Abuse Image Database Strategic Group, Member of the National Crime Agency Prevent Strategic Board, and Founding Director of the UK Safer Internet Centre. He provides expert advisory services to governments, parliamentarians, Commonwealth entities, police forces, and NGOs globally on internet safety frameworks.
