About
Fraser Bransby is a Professor and the Fugro Chair in Geotechnics at the University of Western Australia (UWA), leading the Centre for Offshore Foundation Systems (COFS). His expertise spans offshore geotechnics, geotechnical engineering, and seabed characterization, with a focus on renewable energy infrastructure and oil/gas projects. He holds a BA (First Class) and PhD from the University of Cambridge, followed by roles at UWA, Dundee University, and Fugro.
Research interests include offshore pipeline/cable design, anchors for floating renewables, and seabed geotechnics. Current projects involve wind turbine foundations, geostatistical anchor design, and crusty seabed studies. He supervises multiple PhD and Master’s students, collaborating with Fugro and industry partners.
Notable contributions include advancing seabed characterization via geophysical inversion and centrifuge modeling. His work addresses challenges in carbonate sediments, cyclic loading effects, and offshore energy transition. Grants include ARC-funded initiatives on energy infrastructure and digital engineering.
