About
Franziska Seise is a doctoral researcher at the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology within the Faculty of Philosophy I at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Previously affiliated with Freie Universität Berlin under Professor Birgitt Röttger-Rössler (now at Halle), she conducts applied anthropological research focusing on civil society integration initiatives for refugees in Germany.
Her research centers on psychological anthropology, particularly examining emotional dynamics and knowledge transfer in sponsorship relationships between adult volunteers and minor refugees. Key interests include:
- Emotion concepts and affect theories in cross-cultural contexts
- Memory practices within migration experiences
- Volunteer-driven integration models as dialogic processes
- Islam conversion narratives among refugee populations
- Participatory methodologies for engaged fieldwork
Seise's work critically analyzes how diversity is negotiated in asymmetric mentoring relationships, with emphasis on value differences, third-party mediation, and emotional labor within Germany's post-2015 refugee integration landscape. Her research combines ethnographic observation with collaborative approaches to generate actionable insights for civil society organizations.
As part of the Psychological Anthropology research group, she contributes to projects examining emotion-affect frameworks and migration studies across Germany and Latin America. Her institutional role involves both doctoral research and academic collaboration within the university's anthropological research infrastructure.
