About
Dr. Franziska Anna Lechleitner is an Earth Scientist affiliated with the Laboratory for the Analysis of Radiocarbon with AMS (LARA) at the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Bern. As an SNSF Ambizione Fellow, she leads independent research on the interplay between climate and the carbon cycle, focusing on terrestrial environments like the Critical Zone. In September 2025, she will transition to a group leader role at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research (WSL) in Birmensdorf, supported by an SNSF Starting Grant.
- Expertise: Field geochemistry, environmental monitoring, stable isotope analysis, radiocarbon techniques, organic geochemistry.
- Affiliations: LARA, Oeschger Centre for Climate Change Research (OCCR).
Her research reconstructs past climate-terrestrial ecosystem interactions using speleothems and other proxies, with implications for understanding carbon sequestration in permafrost regions.
Scientific Awards:
- SNSF Ambizione Fellowship
- SNSF Starting Grant
