Frans Hagerman

Frans Hagerman serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education at Stockholm University, where he is actively engaged in teaching and research. His work is centered within the Department of Education (Institutionen för pedagogik och didaktik), located at Frescativägen 54 in Stockholm.

Hagerman's research focuses on the role of creativity within education systems, examining discourses, didactical models, and ethical dimensions of creativity. He investigates how creativity functions as a competence for driving societal development forward, with particular attention to how educational institutions can foster creative abilities in students as required by curriculum and EU regulations. His work connects educational theory with practical classroom applications, emphasizing communication practices in learning environments.

He currently teaches courses in learning theories, school-based education, and quality development work, bringing his research insights directly into the classroom. His teaching reflects his research interests in how knowledge and knowing take shape within communicative practices in educational settings.

Hagerman is affiliated with two research groups: Didactics as Communication, which studies learning as a social practice within formally and informally organized institutions through theoretical and empirical studies of teaching and learning as communicative practices; and the Educational Research in Citizenship Competences (ERiCC) group, which defines competence as the acquisition and mobilization of knowledge, skills, attitudes and values through reflection, anticipation and action to develop pluralistic democracy.

His primary research project, Teaching for creativity: discourses, didactical models and ethical dimensions, addresses the importance of developing teachers' skills to conduct teaching that benefits students' creative development in accordance with educational requirements.
