Francis Magee is a faculty member at the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), specializing in Tuba within the Wind, Brass & Percussion department since 2001. He holds a BA from Glasgow University and advanced training at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now Royal Conservatoire of Scotland) and the Royal Northern College of Music. His career spans extensive orchestral experience, including principal roles with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and guest appearances with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Ulster Orchestra, and others. A dedicated chamber musician, he was a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Brass Quintet for a decade, performing recitals and educational workshops. He currently performs with Earlsfort Brass and Dublin Brass.
His teaching roles include prior positions at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and CIT Cork School of Music, where he examined tuba, euphonium, and cimbasso. Awards include the Governors’ Recital Prize for Brass from the Royal Scottish Academy. His work integrates performance excellence with educational outreach, reflecting a lifelong commitment to brass music.
